LIVE OAK, Calif- Santa Cruz County Deputy Doug Smith is being credited with saving the life of an infant Tuesday evening.
The baby's mother was at a laundromat on 17th and Capitola Road when her baby stopped breathing, said the sheriff's office. She was able to flag down Deputy Smith who gave the baby "rescue breaths" until the he started to breath.
Paramedics were on scene within minutes of getting the call and rushed the baby to a hospital.
Deputy Smith, who has been with the department for 10 years, is a canine handler and has extensive training as a medical first responder, said the sheriff's department.
