From The Farm To The Table

It is that time when all of our favorite fruits and vegetables are in season and ripe for the picking.

Local farms and wineries are coming together with Chaminade Resort & Spa to take advantage of the local bounty and to host the Second Annual Farm-to-Table Dinner Series, five dinners featuring the finest that Santa Cruz growers and vintners have to offer.

The next Farm-to-Table Dinner is scheduled for Friday, August 20th. The dinner will take place on Chaminade's terrace patio, which boasts beautiful views of the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Monterey Bay. The Dinner includes local wine and will begin with a reception from 5:30-6:00pm featuring passed hors d'oeurves, followed by a four course dinner beginning at 6:00pm.

First Thai Restaurant to Set Up Shop in SV

According to Press-Banner.com Alan and Duangjai Sachsel had noticed the Thai cuisine void in the valley for years. Finally, the couple decided to fill it with the recently opened Thai Village Restaurant at King’s Village Shopping Center on Mount Hermon Road.

Save the date for the 11th Anniversary Scotts Valley Art and Wine Festival. Come enjoy fine art, wine & beer tasting, great food, and live entertainment in an open park setting at Skypark in Scotts Valley August 14 and 15 from 10am to 6pm.   The event will feature over 100 artists from around California and surrounding areas. Copious Winery Grand Opening

Winemaker Lance Campbell has come down from his mountain top winery in the Sierra Foothills and has gone coastal. He is opening a tasting room on the Westside with his wife Brandie. Don't miss out on their grand opening event, Saturday March 20th.

Aptos' Severino's Leads Chowder Cookoff Winners

The 29th Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook Off & Festival was a clamoring success with 77 teams competing under sunny skies at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Since 1981 the event has raised nearly $900,000 for Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation programs.

Results of 2010 Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook Off & Festival:

Chocolate Festival Returns for 2010

The UCSC Women’s Club will present the third annual Santa Cruz Chocolate Festival on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 1-5 p.m. at the Cocoanut Grove at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.  More than 30 chocolatiers will participate. This family-friendly event will raise scholarship funds for re-entry students—those who are returning to higher education after an extended absence.

The Festival will feature chocolate tastings, music by Lawrence Beamen, singer and top 10 finalist from the 2009 America’s Got Talent, a magical demonstration of turning cacao beans into chocolate by Anne Baldzikowski- chef instructor at the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Department at Cabrillo College. Chocolate gift items designed to please you and your valentine will be on sale.

Jack in the Box Heads to SV

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports, Jack in the Box plans to open a new restaurant on Scotts Valley Drive in the spot that had formerly housed Denny's and Scotts Valley Diner, city officials said. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring.
